Some years ago a friend waited 22 years for XZ for his last country. All countries come on sooner or later. DXers are very enterprising.

The latest show stopper is that they won't allow generators or fuel on the reef. Same with Johnston island. Pretty hard to run a DXpedition without power.
If we can't bring hydrocarbon fuel, perhaps a nuclear reactor would be allowed

This is true - I think I have worked a couple entities where they hadn't been activated in almost that long . . .

It took me about that long to get my KP1 QSL for a 15m QSO in 1985.

What about wind turbines or tidal power?
The propane generator idea is a good one, unless they don't want any fuel or noise.

I think having a ham with the right connections and convince the US F&W to allow fuel and then bring scaffolds for when the coral spit is awash at high tide.
I worked BS7H - so I guess KH5K is simply in that same class now.
I guess its just "QRX" some more . . . .
And keep trying for SV2ASP/A - hi hi

How many expeditions can afford a wind turbine or tidal power? It's not like hams have them laying around in their backyards doing nothing. Setting up all the antennas is enough work without having to setup alternative energy methods. 73, Chris/NU1O

A small wind turbine is not expensive, relatively speaking. A 1.5kw turbine runs about $2000. A 500W turbine is less than a grand. What may be challenging is the support structure. But given that expeditions can erect temporary supports for antennas it may be within the realm of possibility. Tidal power I'm not so clear on how. I know there is small hydro for residential off grid use.

Yep, Scaffold Reef wasn't even supposed to be an entity... but anyway.

If we get someone high enough up the "food chain," anything is possible. Let's say a billionaire from Silicon Valley wanted to do Kingman. Think he could find a way? Donations to his political party.
What if SecState was a DXer? You bet he would get a waiver.
There's always a way. Never give up!
