Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a side mounted magmount? So you understand, a mount similar to a glass mount where the mount is on the side of the glass but the antenna points vertically. So in this case the magmount would be placed on the side of the metal body but the antenna would point vertically.

I don't think there are any made.  You can, of course, do it yourself, but the positioning of the magmount would lend itself to be problematic.  The antenna itself may well act as a lever, making it easy to knock the magmounted antenna off the vehicle.  Therefore any overhead obstruction that the antenna would hit would probably cause the mount to come off.

One solution is to use a UHF mag mount, a right angle UHF adapter, and a UHF connector whip antenna.
