I have an Icom 2KL that will only put out 250 watts on 15 and 17 meters.  Output on all other bands is still 500 watts.
Any ideas where to look?

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

I guess a place to start would be with "what is your SWR (between the amp and antenna) on these two bands"? Solid state amps will reduce their power when the SWR is high in order to protect the transistors.

In all the IC-2KL's I repair , most problems (like you describe) the problem is on the low pass filter board. The service manual is free to download (google)

Bob SWR is 1.1 to 1 on both bands.  I checked that first as it was working fine on 17 and when I swithced to 15 I could not
get more than 250 watts out. I thought something went wrong with the antenna or coax but that is not the case.

The Icom 2KL has lots of problems caused by the poor quality connectors that they used in this product. You could start by opening up the amp and reseating every connector you can see.

BTW, Scott at MTS  ( malcom tech service) is a very good  fixer of IC 2-KL amps.  if you need it fixed  He is good and fair on pricing.  And he can do the ten meter no switchy mod.
