I'm getting some noise on my VHF/UHF rig in my home office and I want to try using ferrite beads on some or all of the typical office equipment (computer, printer, fax machine, phone, etc.).  Some of the equipment is plugged into a power strip and I was wondering if I could simply put the ferrite beads on the power cable from the power strip to the electrical outlet, or should I put beads on the power cords for each piece of equipment.

Has anyone tried this?

Thanks,
Chas.

Ferrites as close as possible on the power cable to each unit that is generating the RFI. They might not all be causing it, so test one at a time to identify the noise generators. If they're using wall warts, then put all the wall warts on a power strip with heavy RF filtering, and run your radio off a different power strip.

Before adding ferrite beads it should be determined which, if any, devices in the office are causing noise. Shut off all the devices in the office. If the noise changes one or more of the devices is the source. If this is the case power the devices up one at a time while listening for a change in the noise.
