The 14th annual Ham Radio University (HRU) will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Briarcliffe College, 1055 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, NY 11714

A day of activities at which hundreds of Amateur Radio enthusiasts will share ideas, experiences, knowledge and fellowship, Ham Radio University also will be the New York City/Long Island Section Convention of ARRL: The National Association for Amateur Radio™.

The event will include more than 25 informational forums moderated by local experts in a broad range of Amateur Radio activities including: Tips, Tricks and Techniques of the Best Operators', 'Echolink', 'Advanced Scanner Forum', 'Azores Nine Island Hunt – The Other Side of the Pileup', 'Advanced D-STAR raspberry pi', 'LINUX' and a workshop on how to use and place connectors and another on Digital Interfacing.

The keynote speaker will be Bill Cross W3TN, Staff member in the Federal Communications Commission’s Mobility Division -- part of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau.

A live ham radio station will be operating throughout the event and visitors will be able to experience ham radio communications firsthand by getting “on the air”. There also will be a session in the afternoon for those who would like to take a Federal Communications Commission license examination to become a “ham” radio operator.

Ham Radio University is a cooperative effort supported by radio clubs and related organizations in the New York City - Long Island area. This year the event is being sponsored by the Long Island Mobile Amateur Radio Club (LIMARC). The American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the Radio Central Amateur Radio Club, The Kings County Repeater Association, the Great South Bay Amateur Radio Club, CERT, the Salvation Army, National Weather Service, Friends of Long Island Wireless, Nassau Amateur Radio Club and others will have tables in the Club Room with information available about ham radio classes, public service events and other activities.
