Honestly, does any of us have a big enough operating desk?

These were built by N2LXM out of industrial surplus work benches (including the white laminate risers).  There is about 28 inches of clear space in front of the radios.

The second radio room (MARS and Digital/EME) has the same style of operating desk.

Those are sweet desks. I could not fit all of those in my room I use as my shack!

I built my bench from stock counter top from the big box home center. It is 25" deep. Looks and works great. I just keep my equipment slid to the front to prevent clutter.

Just rebuilt the shack...  Photos are on my web site under Station Information...  What is not shown is two ground bus's one runs along the rear of the desktop just behind the back edge.  Coming from it are black stranded, #6 wires to each piece of equipment.  The two bus's are bonded to together, and the pair of them are bonded to the electrical ground for the home...  ALL of my little birdies on all bands ended with this addition...  Plus the station use was thought out slightly...  I am right handed, and all functions can be gotten to via a single hand if needed...

My desk is 36" deep. In my day to day operating area it leaves plenty of room for a keyboard, paddles, logbook, notebook, etc. I tend to keep my operating area very clean and uncluttered. My main rig is at table level. The rest of the desk has a shelf/riser 18 or 20" deep (built for boatanchors..). All of the desk framing is 2 x 4's or 1X2's for the shelf framing. Everything is very sturdy. Not pictured but at the same work height is a workbench to the right of my operating position with three tiers of shelves filled with test equipment.

I picked up an old fashioned teacher's desk-36"x72" for $50 from the Habitat for Humanity thrift store.  On top sits my APC SmartUPS 1500, Kenwood TS-850, 2 Astron 35A power supplies, ICOM-706 with the LDG IT-100 ATU and dual 17' monitors that sit on the 850 and one of the power supplies.  Wireless keyboard and mouse sit in front of everything and my computer is mounted in a commercial under desk mount on 1 of the side overhangs.  The keyboard and mouse sit close to the edge and the equipment sits close to the keyboard/mouse except for the UPS which sits off to the side.  I use a headset/boom mic and a Rat Shack foot pedal mounted on the inside of the desk so it is a knee pedal.  Plenty of room for coax bends and computer speakers.  There is a 4' dual florescent light fixture above everything and I like having the storage of all the drawers.  Don't forget the comfy chair!  No clutter on my desk!
