Hi all Happy New Year,will someone please tell me the difference between PSK31 and PSK63,which is better and why,thanks.

Tech geeks, please help me out here with my stats.

PSK31 Baud Rate is 31.25 or Avg Speed of 44 words per min with a bandwidth of 80Hz.
PSK63 Baud Rate is 62.5 or Avg Speed of 88 words per min  with a bandwidth of 160Hz.
PSK125 Baud Rate is 125 or Avg Speed of 180 words per min with a bandwidth of 320Hz.

The most popular is mode is 31.   But I like 125 because of the speed.  63 is twice as fast as 31 and 125 four times as fast as 31. You can easily spot 125 because of the fat line on your waterfall, but are only in short burst.

So if I'm working a pile-up I like using 63 or 125 just because of the speed.  Also it seem that stations who know how to switch to 63 or 125 are not newbies. They know their software, hand how to use macros.  They don't hit the "brag" macro and give you their life story when you are working a pile-up.

I'm starting to see more PSK63 lately, which I think is a good thing (PSK31 is too slow for me). Do you notice a difference in SNR between the different symbol rates?

As the others have said, both are good; 63 is twice as fast.  You'll see a lot more 31 than 63, but I have my fldigi set up with a macro button for my main modes, 31, 63, and RTTY, so switching is almost instant--very handy!

BTW, P29ZAD, I sure have been seeing you a lot lately on the bands around 2100Z when I'm home from work.  Haven't managed to work you yet but you've got a GREAT signal here on the east coast!  TNX 73!

Almost all the US stations I see only use PSK31 and surprisingly there only seem to be about 20 regulars who are capable of reaching Europe
