An article in the May 2009 QST (http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2009/03/07/10689/?nc=1) says that the new FCC Special Counsel Laura Smith's dad is requiring her to learn morse code before she takes the Technician exam.  Apparently he disagrees with the FCC's position that morse adds no value to the ham experience -- and is making his point in a very unique way!

As an aside, I appreciate Laura's comments and honesty about not gaining her license just because of the job -- a trait that others in Washington should adopt!  I expect she will be a great asset to the ham community.

I read that, too, but it immediately occurred to me
that learning the code will actually be pretty
useless to her in her enforcement role at the
commission.

I do hope she enjoys using it as part of her new
hobby.
