I'm trying to find the obituary for Donald Steele, N7RH, who passed away in November 2009. I'm told that QST had a Silent Key listing for him in their February 2010 issue, but I can't find any listing of it on arrl.org. I'm wondering if anyone has the physical issues of QST lying around from the Nov 2009-Mar 2010 timeframe. If so, it would be great if I could get a scanned copy of the page with his obit on it.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!

If you can wait until Wednesday I can have a look at the issues of QST at our club. Hopefully some other eHam readers will see your query before then.

Also it would help if you posted an email address as there isn't one on your QRZ.com profile

"Steele, Don, Sun City, AZ"

Sorry, my eHam profile has my email. I will update QRZ to match. In the meantime, my email is online@richardhartman.net. Thank you!

Richard:

If you are an ARRL member, you can search under periodicals, QST, for the February 2010 issue.  Under "Columns" highlight QST:silent keys and it will creat a PDF of the Silent Keys column.

If you are an ARRL member, you can search under periodicals, QST, for the February 2010 issue.  Under "Columns" highlight QST:silent keys and it will creat a PDF of the Silent Keys column.

I tried to find how to do that but was unsuccessful. I will give it another go.

Later: I tried looking around the ARRL website. The only thing I found was:

http://www.arrl.org/arrl-periodicals-archive-search-help

...which gave a lot of tips for doing searches, mentioning "Once you've entered the search requirements, click the button to perform the search. Only those index entries that match all of the criteria you entered will be listed." Yet there was no text box in which to enter search criteria, and no submit button to click. I tried this in both FireFox and Internet Explorer with exactly the same results.

I also found a "Periodicals" link at the bottom of the home page by clicking the "Explore ARRL" tag:

http://www.arrl.org/periodicals

Sadly, this only took me to a page encouraging me to join ARRL (I'm already a member!) so I can start getting more magazines. Again, no search mechanism, no way to generate PDF's from specific pages of specific issues of any publication.

Can you point me to this PDF generation? Despite working with HTML since 1994, I don't seem to be able to find it. Thanks!

Richard:

Here is the link to the search page: http://www.arrl.org/arrl-periodicals-archive-search

Insert the month and year.  Then, under column, scroll down and select "QST:silent keys".  Click on Search, and the PDF will appear for the month and year selected.

Here is the link to the search page: http://www.arrl.org/arrl-periodicals-archive-search

I see what was wrong: I was looking at the Help page and the actual Search page is separate (a peer, in fact). Weird way to arrange a website, but now I have it working.

Thanks!
