I am researching Project Diana, named for the goddess of the moon.  The project was the first successful EME attempt from the US.  Link: http://www.bigear.org/CSMO/HTML/CS07/cs07p27.htm

The project involve 5 US Army members stationed at the Camp Evans (part of Fort Monmouth) The headed by Lt. Col. John DeWitt, N4CBC, with Edwin King Stodola,W2AXO as the Chief Scientist.

I am attempting to determine if the remaining team members were licensed amateur radio operators:

    Harold D.Webb
    Herbert Kaufman
    Jacob Moefens

Anyone have call books that cover the 1946 period that might shed light on this issue?

I don't think Col. De Witt's call was N4CBC back in 1946. FCC did not give amateurs N calls until the 1970s.

There is an excellent QST article by Herbert Kauffman, W2OQU, about the project in the May, 1946 issue. It gives the following names and calls (as of January 1946):

Herbert Kauffman - W2OQU
John DeWitt - W4ERI, ex-W4FU
E. K. Stokola - W3IYF
F. Elacker - ex-W2DMD

A team member named "J. Mofensen" is mentioned in the article, but no call given. (Note the spelling).
