Thanks for all the help and comments. I ended up getting the FT-897D and I'm busy getting my antennas up. Hope to meet everyone on the air real soon!

Hope you enjoy the 897...I have the brother of it, the 857 (same guts, just different case) and while it is NOT a TS2000 or top of the line receiver, I have no issues with it..it does what I want..I think you will find the 897 will too...(the TS450 and 480 have a better receiver performance on HF than the 857/897 but if you are not a heavy contest operator or have another ham living next door to you, you should not have any problems
