Kenwood tkr 750 programing question

Is it possilbe to remote control kenwood 750 without buying a controller? I just want to be able to shut the repeater down remotely if anything goes wrong....jon  k1tp

If it is a TKR-x50V2, you can set DTMF commands...otherwise, if its a V1, no..you need an external DTMF decoder/controller

Additional thought. If the problem is an incoming signal you will need to be stronger than it to get thru to the repeater (capture effect) to control it. Make sure you have the timeout timer set to protect the transmitter.

You really need to use a UHF frequency to control the repeater. Control  via the input frequency was never legal under FCC regulations.

It has been for some time now; as long as you can use AUX freqs. The prohibition of using the input freq was deleted from Part 97...Also AUX control (remote control) is legal on the 2m repeater subbands so you can control op a 2m rptr on its input.....but controlling a 10 or 6m rptr on its input is still not legal....
