Last night on 40m I heard the best signing off ever. I have removed the callsigns from the recording to protect the innocent.

Is this the CFO secret handshake?

Amazing stuff! Takes a great fist and a bug to create this beautiful music!

SRI for the quality of the recording

CFO "Chicken Fat Operators"

If you have access to the QST archive do a search for CFO. There is an
article from 1983 that explains the High speed Cw group.

QST Issue: Jan 1983
Title: CFO--Those CW Folks
Author: Barry Yoder, W8SJO

I don't know if the recorded signing off was a CFO member, but It was definitely fun to listen to.

Hopefully someone else can clarify this for us!

tnx

Sounds best, and absolutely chicken-authentic, when done using an old Heathkit with ye olde flaky regulator circuit...

I remember when some of us actually used to send the "sick chicken" signal report to some of those.

And for the record, I don't think it was just Heath products, there were a few others like that back in the day.  Occasionally I still hear that sound on the CW bands from countries like Cubam where many hams evidently must make do with older gear.

Funny what turns us hams on.  So I'm thinking that my XYL will actually find that recording interesting.   Her response "that doesn't sound like any chicken I've ever heard."
