Besides what is on the team website. Another interesting link for Wake and the U.S. contractors taken prisoner there.
http://bonitagilbert.com/

Link to a newly released book about the contractors there too.

Looking forward to working this memorial station.

I should have included in my first post that the U.S. issued a special medal for the defenders of Wake. I think the only island medal so issued.

The guys who took Iwo Jima were not in a defensive posture but I can't see how anybody that served in that hell hole did not get a medal.

Chris those Marines got plenty of the normal medals for valor. Bronze star, silver star, navy cross, etc. There were plenty of places to fight over.

My father got to go west from Texas. All the way to the first American force in Korea. They took the Japanese surrender there. The send home of Japanese military personnel, and taking care of Korean refugees. Of all the places he was in the Pacific. He always talked about how bad Korea was.

The Golden Gate in 48. For most military it was 45. For him......lucky...... 46.

Callsign of K9W has been issued.  This dxpedition is certainly one of the most exciting ones in 2013.  I've blocked off my calendar for the month of October Grin
