Great sleuthing. Maybe BS7 or XZ? I have both - but could use band slots - especially BS7.

Worked all Rumors Award?

Is XX9 in SE Asia?  I could use that, as well as BQ9, XU, XZ, and BS7.  I still hope it is something on an easier path to me until I get the really big antenna and tower up.

I highly doubt it is BS7.  The Chinese have blocked all access to the rocks, including to Filipino fisherman who have fished there for generations.  If it were a BY sponsored expedition, it would be solely for political reasons and to try to reinforce their claim which goes against the spirit of Amateur Radio.  The recent 9M4SLL Spratly DXpedition was jammed heavily as well as 9M0L the year before for similar political reasons.

I would doubt it would be BV9 because of all the recent tension in the South China Sea over the recent Chinese push to claim the region.

XZ is not out of the realm of possibility however there has been some recent civil unrest within the country in recent days.

My guess, if it had to be a SEA country, would be Bangladesh.  XX is another possibility.

S2 and XX were recently activated.  I don't think it's BV9 or BS7.  That leaves only XZ.  I'm all in on XZ.

In "Autumn"? It's Autumn now! But I think he means Spring.
South East Asia would be nice, as it's my "backyard" and easy from here.
Burma would be nice to hear on air. Pratas and Scarborough Shoal are unlikely as mentioned above. Macao has seen plenty of activity.
There's nothing else new there for me.
Wherever it is, it will be at least a Marathon point.
We continue to wait, impatiently...

Well, if it's something special in SE Asia, my money's on either Pratas or Myanmar. I, too, doubt that the Scarborough pimples will be activated given current regional tensions. Either BV9 or XZ will be ATNOs for me, so my fingers are firmly crossed!

Oops, I see people have read my QRZ bio. Actually this upcoming announcement is not to do with my planned Autumn expedition to SE Asia. They are totally different.

Dammit, I wish I could say, but I can't as I'll get in *%4£.

If it's XZ, then I'll be very happy.  But the guy who would issue the ham licences, (The Minister of Telecoms & IT) only took up his post a few weeks ago after the previous guy was placed under house arrest.

Also, as of today, ethnic fighting has broken out in Yangon itself.  I'm at work (school) and I live in that area of the city, so I need to be careful walking home later...

Simon: please take care there . . . .

Using the process of elimination (with all the reasons why "x" or "y" or "z" can't be activated), it leaves:

South Sandwich - which would be activated next southern Hemisphere Summer
Amsterdam - not sure what time of year is best - it doesn't have too harsh a climate - maybe next (northern hemisphere Fall?)
Tromelin - which I know can't be activated during Typhoon season - December - March in that part of the world, so I say between April - November, my guess closer to the northern hemisphere Fall

I think it will be something in September or October, and it will be an ATNO for me.

I can't imagine anything that isn't ultra rare would have this level of secrecy.

I'm hoping it is something in the southern Indian Ocean.  Crozet or Bouvet would be spectacular!

Col,

Are you going to an exotic location in SE Asia?  Any hints?
