I'm pretty sure it won't be Eritrea.  We have been negotiating with them for several years with little progress. We made two visits to Asmara.

This past January, they had a Coup attempt where the Ministry of Information was taken over and is suspected of being involved.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/22/world/africa/coup-attempt-fails-in-eritrea.html?_r=0

Basically, no one in the Eritrean government trusts each other and this prevents good things from happening. They have a on-going border war with Ethiopia and they have no need or desire for tourism. They won't allow any non Eritreans leave Asmara for surrounding areas.   Things are pretty bleak in Eritrea at the moment.

Yeah, I am sure you are right, I guess its just wishful thinking on my part. hi hi

I'm not so sure about KP1, though I'd obviously be thrilled at the prospect. With the current bunch of greenie-weenies in Washington, I don't see them doing any favours to hams. I'd love to be proved wrong, of course, but my guesses are all elsewhere for this "big one." Just hoping it's not something that's seen modest activity since 2010 or 2011.

Guessing is pointless.
I hope to read the announcement soon, before 1 April!

IF the team were not already there and setting up antennas, and IF the trip is actually a ways off, WHY the delay in the announcement......?  It should not matter Undecided

I think because you need military access and transportation to some of the French TAAF's and Meteo sites, and that you have to be ready to go in a moment's notice that its Tromelin.

If not Tromelin, another French entity.

Not to mention, FT5GA was 5 years ago.

What if a USFWS employee was doing the DXPedition and inviting a few friends along?

You never know!! I mean if a guy would go to the extreme of joining the Coast Guard just to put Kure Island on the air, you can imagine what a dedicated ham might do to bring Navassa to the masses Smiley

I had thought about another Microlite Penguins dxpeditions.  However after learning that it cost $5 per QSO at South Orkney I'm not too sure now...

Something is telling me that it's going to be Bouvet island 3Y/B.

I reiterate, please, not Bouvet! A fair number of guys worked 3Y0E quite easily a few years back. Bandfills would be nice, but there are so many entities down in that part of the world that haven't seen an activation in at least 12-15 years and need a DXpedition far more than Bouvet does.

Bouvet is the #3 most wanted entity behind P5 and KP1.   Plenty enough reasons to activate it for the many thousands of DXers who still need their first contact with Bouvet.
