Im possibly in the market for a new (to me) base radio. Ive been looking around but theres so many im finding it hard to narrow the search,

So im asking for actual user recommendations. I have no manufacturer preference, but these specific requirements -

Full HF +6m minimum, all mode
extended/extendable Tx + Rx (must be able to fully cover 60m as used in UK)
Fully CAT/PC controllable
100W or more
Dual VFO/split etc etc

My budget is very limited (around £400 GBP) which means older 2nd hand equipment.

So im interested in suggestions, although NOT the FT-857D - I already have one of these for mobile! Im looking for something a bit 'chunkier' for shack use!

I would suggest checking out the FT-450D

Would have everything you're looking for AND an internal antenna tuner.

The price of a new one is just slightly above your budget, but if you are able to scrape together the extra funds it might be an option. Otherwise, you may be able to find a used one very close to your budgeted amount.

I do not have one so cannot share any experience with it, but have been considering getting one.

I do use some CAT control with my current radios, but none of my current radios meet all the other requirements you are looking for.

How about the Yaesu FT-920?  Those can had pretty cheaply.  HF+6, tuner, dual VFO, and a decent AF filter.  Big front panel, too.

I just read your post.
I own a Ftdx-1200, does exactly what you are looking for. I have owned it for two years and I am very pleased with the performance.

Good RF filtering, good notch, IF shift, Contour. Transmit audio EQ built in.
And reasonably priced and you will have a new rig with a warranty.
