I purchased a 2nd hand Yeasu FT450at and was wondering HOW can I tell (without removing the cover) if it has been modded for MARS operation.

Upon receiving the unit I did a FULL RESET to put all settings back to factory and remove what they previous owner had saved.

hook to a dummy  load and see if it will transmit  on  14.405..  (used to be a mars frequency).

If it TRANSMITS anywhere outside of any Ham band, it has been modded.

Just turn the Big Knob to a band edge, then turn past it and, with the rig attached to a Dummy Load and not an antenna so you don't break the regs, see if it will transmit there.

OK, I thought if it would transmit ANYWHERE outside the normal band might be an easy way to tell.  I just wasnt sure if, because of the reset, I might have to go into an extended menu and change something.

Just to make this final, I did a test using dummy load on 14.405 and then moved to 14.650 and it DID transmit (or at least did not give a TX ERROR) on those freq.

Looks like it HAS been modded for MARS.  Thanks for the help.
