O.C. White, Luxo, TecNec, and Heil are major microphone boom suppliers
for the commercial/professional radio broadcasting industry.

Heil iCM microphone

ALL Things Icom -- Micophone basics, with the Icom radios.

ICOM IC-718
The Mic Pre Amp on the iC 718 has down in gain by -15 dB. It will NOT support dynamic microphones.
The supplied hand microphone – as ALL hand mics, sounds hollow and mushy. Because of this low gain mic pre amp Our GM, Goldline, HC 4 or HC 5 elements will not work. They will be very low in gain.
The answer to making the iC 718 come alive is our iCM, handi mic iC or one of the headsets using only our high output 'iC'. The iCM is the perfect match for the iC 718. Set the microphone gain to 70 and with the stock bandwidth of 2.4 kHz your SSB signal will be terrific.

If you are getting the HB-1 boom, I wouldn't waste time trying to feed the iCM mic cable through the boom. The Heilwire cable is too thick. I took a chance at it and removed the mic plug. I gave up after about an hour. I couldn't get it past about 3/4 the way through the first piece.
I have two iCM hand mics, and a Proset Plus IC with the iCM element and the H-4, and a BM-10 headset with the H-5 element.
I mostly use the iCM elements. They all have their place and work well.

The ICM is a great microphone although heavy use will destroy the ptt switch, on my 4th one.
I use it on 751a and also the 718 with much better reports than the handhelds.

I've been using the ICM with my Icom IC 728...Today, UPS
brought my new IC 7410.  Hoping to use the mic on the new radio.
Not been able to find settings suggested any where, yet.
Anyone using the ICM mic with a IC 7410..

Thanks..

The 50th Anniversary of that historic speech, Ich_bin_ein_Berliner is June 26th this year!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ich_bin_ein_Berliner

"Lass' sie nach Berlin kommen" ("Let them come to Berlin") was also pronounced in that same 1963 JFK speech,
which Ronald Reagan paraphrased in 1987.
It would take another 26 years (November 9, 1989) for that to occur.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandenburg_Gate#Berlin_Wall_and_its_fall

For context, on June 12, 2013 -- it will have been 26 years since Ronald Reagan
made his famous speech in 1987.
General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!
