One of the guys in my local DX club worked David on 10m this morning.  I got on about five minutes after his Q and I heard nothing.  The signal had disappeared by the time I got on.  He sent me a recording of his QSO.  I could hear BY, JA, and PY calling off the back of his beam.  David was Q5 copy.  This happened at 6:30am local time.  Can someone explain how this could happen?  Perhaps we are indeed in a solar peak right now Cheesy

That was a "highlight event" working ZS8Z on 10M at 0624 local time.  Link to Recording: http://www.n0un.net/large-recordings/ZS8Z-10M.mp3.

Incredible QSO and would make SportsCenter tonight for sure!   Smiley

Just for kicks I plugged the QSO into VOACAP and the probability for that path does spike around 14-15Z, and obviously the MUF was up too.  Congrats.

I'm getting ready to send one but I think I'll do the stamp routine, seems to work well for me.  I also emailed him just today (Dec 8,2013) to make sure I'm in his log as per his QRZ page.

It looks like part of his log is on Clublog.  Mine still doesn't show neither is Randy's (AJ7G) and Rich (K3VAT).  I hope mine is part the backlog that still needs to be uploaded to Clublog.  Those who worked Carson ZS8C got lucky with their LoTW confirmations.  I have heard David ZS8Z on numerous occasions however I never made an insurance QSO for the sake of the smaller stations.  I'm looking forward to getting this one confirmed (after almost a year of waiting).

It appears that most if not all of the logs have been uploaded to Clublog.

I see now my Q's from 22 May last year are in Club Log.
That was a good evening - 17, 15, 12 and 10 m SSB, one after the other! David was also on 20 m, but I didn't chase that as I had Pierre confirmed from the year before.
I had hoped to work them on 40 m, but haven't yet.
David states on his QRZ.com page that he will set up LotW after he returns to S Africa in May.

My September mobile QSO now shows at clublog. I guess I just have to wait for the QSL card ?

I just listen to very low ZS8C (44) on 12m at 1455z, request the QSL via OQRS.

I've been seeing spots for ZS8C in the mornings on 15m.  Not a peep here.  Did anyone hear or work him recently from NA?

Chris NU1O- I saw your spot today.  Did you work Carson for an ATNO?  If so congrats!

ZS8C has been workable here in TN on 15m the past few mornings starting around 1245z or so with somewhat better copy than usual. Carson has been specifically looking for NA/SA, telling EU to standby.

While never terribly strong he's perhaps S-5 to at times S-6 and R-4 to R-5.

Thanks Mike.  I have never heard ZS8 on the short path from here.  However I'm never up that early to give it a try.  It's nice to know that there's propagation to NA (at least to the East Coast).

Gene,

100w and a poor performing multi-band antenna are partly to blame.  I'm not sure if CW will help that much...  If Carson or David get on CW (unlikely) there will be huge pileups for sure as the demand for CW is very high.  Perhaps it's better that Carson stays on SSB if you just need one contact for an ATNO.  Due to the antenna restrictions I doubt anyone will try to organize a dxpedition at ZS8.  I'm sure the right propagation will find its way to you.  GL.

I should have added to my earlier post that while ZS8C's signal has been audible from about 1300z on, today, for example, he was copyable and working the US and EU until about 1600z so the West Coast may well have a better chance at this later time.

He has been making a special effort the past few days to work North and South America while telling EU to QRX.

What was interesting today was that he was telling the pileup to call up 5 to 10 but everyone was calling up 5; those calling up between 5 and 10 were having a much easier time getting through. It was clear that he is hearing us better than we are hearing him. Sometimes he would come back to someone, copying the call correctly, but the US station wouldn't reply and Carson would keep calling the station and repeating the report over and over.

Thanks.  Today I listened at 1530z but didn't hear a peep.  I'll try again tomorrow.  This is not an ATNO for me but it's a new band.

ps I'm located in CO not CA.
