Greetings from a new member

The wife isn't real excited about mounting a antenna to our new metal roof.

As I was watching a passing storm, I noticed that my '25 foot flagpole wasn't mvoing and the flag was.

So, I am thinking about mounting a Comet GP-1 on such a pol.

Thoughts  and thanks!

Congrats on being a new HAM.  While waiting on replies to your question, use the SEARCH  function on this site and search for "flag pole antennas".  You will find more questions and answers than you have time to read.

Sure it will work.  You just have to figure out how to get the coax from the
antenna down to ground level without getting it tangled in the halyard, or
having the outer insulation worn off by the motion of the flag in the wind.
If the pole is hollow, running it down the inside would be a good solution.

Sure it'll work, just tie wrap the coax from the antenna to the ground every say 3-5 ft to avoid tangling with the flag rope.  I have my GP-1 leaning against the vinyl fence and it works very well.  Just imagine it on top of the flagpole, you could work the International Space Station with ease.
