Hello all,

somewhere in my surfing, which, usually begins here, I stumbled upon a site or forum where a person could determine approximate manufacture date for Drake equipment based upon serial numbers.

Can someone help me out here, I cant remember where I found it.

Now, if I can just remember where I posted this question....    Smiley

Thank you,

Thank you !!!

Drake kept all those warranty cards for the ham gear in big filing cabinets.  I know cause I got in them from time to time.  However at some point they disposed of all that data.  Would have been a goldmine for at least the dates of sale on the gear, without exposing owner data.

Maybe someone can shed some light here for me on my TR-4 and AC-4 vintage.

Per Ron's web site, my TR-4 which is serial number 26590 would have been built around early 1967

My AC-4 power supply is serial number 28573 which would make it much earlier than any on the list.  The list begins with a 37105 serial number built in January 1971.
I would guess that my power supply would be of similar vintage to the transceiver.  Surely there are other recorded serial numbers pre 71.  ?   There must be something I dont know about that serial number sequence.

I bought my rig from someone whom I think had bought it new.   I dont think he ever got a ticket, and just received with it.   I bought it in probably fall 1975.   I know he worked at Rath Packing company in Waterloo Iowa with my dad. I was 14 at the time.  I just remember handing over my 300 dollars, which seemed like all the money in the world to me.   Cheesy

It sort of was, when you detassle corn and dovetail cabinet drawers for a "living" and ride a bicycle to work.

thanks,
              John
