I have had a remote setup for about three years, using Skype for my audio with an Elecraft K3.  I have noticed at times that my mic audio level (going to K3 via Skype) varied.

I was not using the "Automatically adjust" setting for either mic or speaker at either PC (in Skype, Tools, Options, Audio Settings).  However at times I had to boost the mic level in Skype, other times had to back off to prevent overdriving K3 and amp.

This morning I discovered something that might be of interest to others using Skype (and Win7).  Go to Win7 Control Panel, Sound, Communications.  Click the "Do Nothing" box.  My PC originally had the "reduce by 80%" box clicked, which was apparently contributing to the varying mic levels.

John.
