See www.swapmyrigs.com to expand on my question. If you have tried this, tell us how it went. Idea is appealing to me as I would like to be able to swap rigs and not have to mess with the head to rig cables painfully installed under the carpet and body trim.

If you are talking about this device: http://www.swapmyrigs.com/

Yes - I have tried it with four different radios, the Kenwood D710, the Kenwood V71 and the Icom IC-2820 and ID-880H.  It works fine and save a LOT of installing and removing of cables in the car if you are like me and like to use different radios.  I liked it so much I got two of the devices - one for each car.

You might find it makes you buy more radios. ;-)

Oh yes - I forgot I also bought a Yaesu FTM350.  SMR works with that radio as well.
