You can get the Hilberling in different colors like M&M's!
I think in pure stylish taste the IC7800 leaves the Hilberling for dead.
The worst looking dog is the TS990S. Its a radio only its mother could like.
I think Icom won an industrial design award for the Ic7800.
At the end of the day its performance that counts.
Having said that. If we asked the question which radio looks the best inside. The Hilberling would win hands down. Its a work of art inside. It reminds
me a lot of the all the professional test equipment by Wandel and Golterman and most test equipment of the 80's and 90's that was modular with inter connecting cable.
I have lot of Siemens test equipment that was connected with nice microwave cables between all the modules.
Why should you have to ship a radio back when you can just ship back a nice module. Thats what i like about the K3. You can get a new board shipped from Elecraft and just drop it in. You cant do that with a IC7800 without removing 2000 screws.
The Hilbering style is highly polarizing. Some people love it and some don't!
The price being high is the one thing we can all agree on
I will say this, it's one nicely crafted radio.
