Yaesu is now shipping FT-60R radios with the SBH-13 desktop
charger and 500mAH AC wall wart.

From Yaesu's product insert, it appears to be an intelligent NiMH pack charger.

So - contrary to rumors - it is NOT a "direct replacement" for the
multi-chemistry intelligent VAC-370 system. Nor is it just a "dumb,
convenience-only" desktop charger.

Using the previous AC chargers (constant rate, unintelligent wall warts), we
should expect 300-500 complete discharge-charge cycles (more if you have proper
timing of the charge set up ... less if you leave your FT-60R attached for more
than 10 hours a lot of times).

With an intelligent charger for NiMH - one that senses heat and has a charging
algorithm designed for NiMH - we can expect about 75o complete discharge-charge
cycles.

I don't see this new FT-60r package shown yet at a couple of U.S. major-dealer sites (AES, HRO).

Is it available in the U.S. yet, and if so where?

HRO and AES have had them for a while now. No, their respective Web sites are not current. Nor are most of the
personnel I have spoken to at various dealers across the U.S.

But on the shelves of high-volume dealers is this new outfit! ASK as you order!

Interesting and tempting!

I was going to get an FT-60R, but succumbed to price temptation when a used Icom IC-V80 Sport came up for sale on QRZ.com for $80 shipped. ('Sport' = shipped with a AA battery case only, and the price is reduced by $50.) But this battery case doesn't have a way to charge the batts. externally; the cells have to be removed and charged, then replaced into the case.

So, I gave up convenience and 70cm band for $80 worth of savings.

I may just buckle down and buy the Li-Io pack/charger for it, but that's another $80, at which point I'll have more into this radio than I would in the FT-60R new.  Undecided
