I am WAY out of practice using iambic paddles (decades), but I have an HB1B and a set of PortaPaddles I hope to master.

Is anyone aware of a way to use the HB1B as a keyer without transmitting?  I am just hoping to drive the sidetone with it so I can get used to the paddles.

If not, I suppose the classic light-bulb-dummy-load would work.

I have an HB1A, and I haven't found a way. I TX into a dummy load. No issues so far.

HB1B (iii) tunes rx off band (e.g., 6.995), and the keyer works without transmitting.

I have a thought!  Why not build a code practice oscillator that is able to change the tone of the signal and you can then play QSOing yourself!!!

I found this concept most enjoyable for decades!
