Looks like a good bet for portable QRP operation, on paper. Has anyone used these?

It does look useful...

However, from the ad it isn't clear that you could get the full 14Ah capacity for a 12V radio.
It may be rated at 5V instead.

The output is only 12V @ 2A, which will limit the radios you can run from it.  That's marginal
voltage for some radios to achieve full output power if they are designed for 13.8V, and others
(such as a K2) may draw more current on peaks, depending on the power level.

It also has a minimum output of 40mA - that is too high to power my 40-40 rig on receive.


It appears to be a 14.4Ah lithium battery (of unspecified voltage) with a DC-DC converter for
12 / 9 / 5V outputs at 2A.  One critical parameter would be the HF noise generation and dynamic
response of the switching converter - it might not be suitable for powering an SSB rig directly,
since it is designed for charging applications where the current draw is relatively constant.  But
it could be handy for charging the batteries in an HT or portable HF rig rather than running them
directly, as long as 12V is high enough to do so.

For a rig designed to run off 9.6V of rechargeable AA cells, it should at least give you a couple
full recharge cycles, or several partial ones, that could keep a rig running for a week or so of
intermittent operation.  But it might not work well to run a standard mobile rig directly - we'll
have to wait for a report from someone who actually has one to know.

13.8v, if I remember correctly, is charge voltage for 12v batteries, not output voltage.

I've ordered one. I'll let you know how it works out in my KX3.

500.+ hrs. recharge cycles life time.? Is this a one shot deal or can the Lithium.polymer battery be replaced?

The big one (20000 mAh) says one of the ports is 12v @ 4a max, so that should power quite a few QRP radios. It also doesn't say anything about minimum current that I can see but that doesn't mean anything necessarily.

the battery doesn't look replaceable, but 500 portable operations would be one every weekend for ten years. I don't think this is too great of a drawback.

These units are indeed LiPo batteries feeding a DC-DC converter and I will be interested to hear of how the DC-DC converter reacts to powering a QRP transceiver, ie a small current draw interrupted by high current demands (key down).

I have a similar Anker (5V only but with two outputs of differing current ratings) and recently plotted the discharge characteristics at both current levels:

Here's how it reacts: No dice. Will not turn on my KX3.

Maybe if I kick-started it with a load resistor it might do better.
