Take a look at the Icom 7000.  It will cost a little more but it is a better radio than the 857 or 897 or even the Kwood 480.

I've heard about more troubles with the 7000 and the new 7100, though - I haven't heard about many problems with the 480.

Take a look at the Icom IC-7200 .... HF/6mtrs WITH IF-DSP ... for about 1000 bucks or less.
The 480 and 857/897 don't have IF-DSP ....its AF-DSP .....BIG Diff!!!

I decided on the TS-480SAT. I'm more of a Kenwood man, honestly, and after talking with Tim Jun at HamCity.com this afternoon, he dropped the price on refurbs to $809.95 with a 1 year warranty:

https://www.hamcity.com/store/pc/TS-480SAT-REFURBISHED-p1739.htm

For that price I couldn't turn it down. My credit card doubles the warranty to 2 years, so with the $40 MARS mod it's just over $860 with shipping, and it's shipping out this afternoon.
