David -

These appear to be an Eastern Asia connector mfg.
I ordered a complete assortment, for my KIT, which saves $$ from buying as needed.

Search on web page for: HF-4 (below) $5.00 USD (each)
http://www.powerwerx.com/oem-connectors/hf-4-pin-connector-power-cords.html

POWERWERX (California, USA) stocks ALL of these new DC Power Connectors
used on Amateur Radio and Land Mobile (Business/First Responder) Radios.

If they`re the same 4 pin 6 plug connecters Kenwood has always used, they are the same as the Yaesu connecters.

They're 4 pin 4 plug connectors used on all current Kenwood, Yaesu and Icom 100W transceivers. Ebay is stuffed full of them.

Thanks for all the info. I'd spotted a couple of ads in the USA but not found any suppliers in the UK.

The plug seems identical in overall appearance to Molex mini-fit, which are available from Farnell, CPC etc.

But the connector spacing is larger than the molex (8mm instead of 4) if I read the Molex blurb correctly.

Unfortunately I don't have an ebay acct. Ebay means PayPal and I'm not going there. Long story.

#EDIT#
Ah-hah. I think I found it.

David -

Great !
I had not noticed that Farnell / Newark / IN-One was carrying JST (Japan Solderless Terminal) VL-series connectors.

JST connector is an incorrect vernacular term for small white electrical connectors on PCBs of small electronic products manufactured in Asia. JST is not a specific type or size of connector, but instead it's an acronym for Japan Solderless Terminal, which is the long form of the company name J.S.T. Mfg. Co., Ltd.. JST manufactures numerous series (families) and pitches (pin-to-pin distance) of connectors.

Farnell site has so many pictures that are "for illustration only" - ie wrong - it took me a while to find it.

With UK dealers charging £35 for a plug+lead (incl inline fuses) there would seem to be scope for an enterprising soul to make some up & sell them at rallies for rather less :-)

I was somewhat amazed by the price of the JST offical crimping tool. £167 in the UK. Shocked

If you want to choke price the crimp tool for the little coax connectors that Kenwood and others use.

Try $900 US.

While browsing I found Digikey has the JST connectors cheaper than other places. $0.41 for 1 and the pins are $0.14 ea for one. Buy 10 plugs for $4.11 and 40 connectors for $5.12 and you're ready. Oh, the crimp tool is $479.07 and the extraction tool is $110.53.
