Agreed. A fusible link is specifically designed for the purpose, and properly identified on the jacket that it is fusible link material. Which means it is not a random piece of wire to be burned as a safety device. A fusible link is a fuse. Wire is used to deliver power which is protected from overcurrent, melting, fire, etc. by the fuse.

You and VUL know what you're talking about.  What you've both said in the thread will help someone unknowing understand the risks of having a fire or serious injury from either not fusing or over sizing a fuse in DC circuits.  People for some reason think that an automotive DC system doesn't have the same risks as a residential AC system does.  Sure, no shock hazard, (except for plug wires) but the energy in a typical battery is capable of some pretty serious damage.

I run a 6AWG feeder from the battery via a 60A cartridge fuse encased in wire loom at the point of connection, then a 30A fuse on the small custom fuse block under the back seat.  I then have 15A branch positions on the block.  All covered up.  My FT-8900 sits right next to it under the back seat.  Minimal voltage drop on transmit and no worries about where a fault is, if one happens.

Just a thought--instead of continuing to feed the trolls, I use the 'ignore' button.  'JX has been on ignore (for me) for quite a while now.  73!
