I have always been a Macintosh person, but was thinking about buying a PC to use exclusively in the ham shack. I notice that Dell has a special tomorrow on a one-piece Inspiron One 20" Non-Touch which normally goes for $449. http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-one-20-2020-aio/pd?oc=ddcwtw302&model_id=inspiron-one-20-2020-aio

Tomorrow it goes for $349. This seems like it would be sufficient. But I notice that the display is 1600x900. Ham Radio Deluxe, from what I can read, requires a 1920x1080 with Windows 7 or 8. It looks like I would have to go to a more expensive Dell 23" model to get the 1920x1080 resolution. So is the 23" model really necessary or will HRD work okay on the 20" 1600x900?

Save your money, IMO.  I use HRD on a 4 year old netbook.  You could probably buy and off lease PC for $100-150, and if necessary add a video card and fancy monitor.  My guess is it would run HRD and teach you what you need before stepping into the purchase of a new PC for the shack, or you would find a new system a waste.

But hey, if you want Santa to bring you a shiny new computer for the shack, go for it!

Check Micro Center for great deals on refurbished (and guaranteed) computers and laptops.
