I find the reviews very helpful.  Before I bought a [used] Ten-Tec Jupiter, I read all the eham reviews and learned a lot about my rig.
You have to of course take them with a grain of salt.  Like the Amazon.com reviews, they can be invaluable when read with care.  Hearing from actual owners helps one uncover a lot of info that isn't marketing based.

Another example -- before I anti'ed up for the hamtest online subscription, I read the reviews and became convinced it would be money well spent in pursuit of the Extra. So 35 years after passing my Advanced and a month after purchasing the hamtestonline subscription -- and without buying or borrowing any books -- I was an Extra.
