oops, just noticed the pic may be from 1918(?)

add 25 or so years to that and then apply it to the WWII Pacific and perhaps my caption makes sense... ?   Wink

Do you have a lightning ground on that antenna? Oh, no matter - we have plenty of new radio operators graduating from the new school.

That is the problem with Backpack HF ops. Where to plug in that ground wire that dangles below the backpack frame.

I have seen many HF'ers who walk kinda funny.

"Gee, Carel, do you think our FCC would let me use one of these?"

"I dunno, Glenn - your HSA may not let you bring it in over the Peace Bridge."

Maybe that is the 1915 version of the "not so smart bomb".

They use radio direction finding to point this guy to the enemy. When he gets there he holds a grenade and just pulls the pin.

"I'm sorry, General, but zis methane-powered field radio won't do. Zee power zource is too weak under normal conditions, and when we add zee enhanced pork-and-beans power supply to zee amplifier circuit, ve cause vay too much splatter."

(Note where the trumpet attached to the antenna appears to extend from...)

You know Korporal, after zis crazy war is over you and I should go to Ecuador together and start our own radio station. I'm not sure about ze trouser trumpet, but I think you might be on to something with your new fangled quad antenna...

Just for edification, these guys are not soldiers; they're police.  But no matter, most of the comments are hilarious.
