You're not a nice man, are you?  If this country elects Hillary, we, as a nation are finished!!  She's already spinning Benghazi!

yeah, and if we elected Obama for 4 years the country would be socialist, the stock market would crash, the govt would come take all your guns, and bin Laden would be loving it??? (spoiler alert it is his 2nd term and he still is not a muslim nor a socialist, he is just another democratic (aka: Republican-lite). the right wing flaps its nonsense and the left wing flaps from the other side and therefore the political beast unfortunately flies.  Please stop flapping!  Benghazi, like the so-called IRS scandal are clown rodeos based on half-truths at best and make a mockery of those who believe in them.  Please do not get all your info from Fox Noise or Rush (the-political-snake-oil salesman) Limbaugh  Wink   this ain't CB  Undecided

The ARRL does not live up to it's advertising and hasn't for years.  Almost everything they say isn't true.  That's why I'm no longer a member.

Re: W5LZ  reply #77

Are you implying that the ARRL doesn't stand by its 100% satisfied money back guarantee of the products advertised in the QST catalogue?

Doesn't matter whether you think I'm nice or not.  I'm merely pointing out facts.  Until the Republicans can provide a viable candidate, it is what it is.

As for ARRL, it doesn't matter if people love them or hate them, they are the only game in town when it comes to standing up for hams. To those who hate them, get involved and change what you don't like, or continue to sit on your lazy butt and bitch.  It doesn't matter what the ARRL did or didn't do, someone is going to be po'd about something and complain.  I always said if I gave everyone I know a $10 bill, I'd have at least two people complain: one because his wasn't new and another because so-and-so got their first.

When a Republican wins there will be an overnight transformation in the GOP. Government spending will no longer be such a bad thing. They won't have time for repeal, replace or anything else because they'll be too busy shoveling money to their favorite causes.

What is #1 at the ARRL is making money.  The league says otherwise, but they're not kidding anyone.  They want the income to finance their various programs, especially the ones that benefit the league--and most especially its inner circle.

So, if the sales of advertizers generate more advertizing revenue, then that is what the league is going to present in their magazine--more ads.  Years ago, QST was pages thinner, and the ads were not so numerous.  Now the magazine is thicker--but it's just to accommodate the ads that the league makes money from.  The number of pages of actual articles are about the same.

Whether or not amateurs like it, the league is a business, and it has to make money to survive, especially these days.  Quite a few don't like the way the league does business--or the way it is run, for that matter.  I'm among those. (as if you couldn't tell   Shocked )

Something else to consider--its a wonder the league haven't raised their membership rates higher--yet.

Side note: For those of you that are into portable backpacking operating, don't depend on using the pages of QST for a fire starter or toilet paper, there's some kind of fire retardant in the ink and the semi gloss paper renders it useless for both functions.

QST collections (except maybe very old ones) are the one thing on eBay i might expect to see as Free if buyer pays shipping  Smiley
they are so heavy.  not to denigrate the articles or their authors, but moving those things is a pita and it *is* the digital age

*WARNING* -- bad humor to follow

how does that render it useless for toilet paper?  Huh is this a theory or have you experimented?   Cheesy

if fire retardant ink is the issue what kind of stuff are you eating? or are you saying an alternative such as bark is less invasive?  Cheesy

Re: K9AIM

Common sense man, the pages are to slick and it smears, best to use pine cones instead just be sure top of cone is pointed down when wiping fore to aft as this will catch all peanuts and corn kernels also. Fire inhibited printed paper is self explaining, best fire starter is pine pitch mostly found on pine tree trunks, and yes this is from years of on hand experience.

That pine pitch is very sticky (ask baseball players).  Bad spot to get gummed up....

JKA:  I found that using pine anything, where you run the risk of getting pine tar on your south end, is a great fire starter!

... We need a new radio lobby aimed squarely at legislative and bureauocratic ass kicking....

I think you are correct. Why don't you and the OP put that together and let us know how it works?  I look forward to hearing your ideas.

I wonder what percentage of the ARRL's budget is spent on contest administration, bulletins and other broadcasting, flying people to conferences and parties, and so forth?
