Hi, all,

Propagation on 12 and 10 seems to be transequatorial now. I get South America regularly and Oceania sometimes, but can't hear Europe at all. The area of highest MUF also seems to center over the southern hemisphere in the maps.

People keep reassuring me that 10 will likely reopen in the fall.

Any idea why this happens?

There was an uptick in SFI at beginning of this week and on Tuesday night, I worked many EU's in our afternoon/their evening on 12M, in addition to sporadic E and transequatorial stuff to SA and OC. This was a solid good opening to EU but being summertime et al... there was not much activity other than me calling CQ.

10M will likely open a bit this fall for small stations like you and me, but I think it will be nothing like it was in the first 4 months of 2014.

The D layer gets charged by sunlight, so during our summer there is lots of increased absorption on 10m and 15m, especially during the day.
