good morning forum members, here is my question put simple. I found a person selling a used D700 for 475. My question is this. Would it be worth my while to get a D700 over a D7AG and is 475 resonable?

Short answer: It depends. Long answer: both radios are nice in that they have an integrated TNC. Unfortunately, that TNC is not as versatile as most of the stand-alone models. The D700 is really designed for mobile use, while the D7 is much easier to cart around, say on a bicycle or a hike. Performance wise, I think the D700 is much more sensitive on receive, and of course can output 50Watts. The D7 works well enough if you have a lot of digipeaters in your area. I use both, they are equally useful in their own ways.

$475 is kind of on the high side for a used D700. I bought a brand new D700 from AES less that a year ago for $480- including shipping! Most of the D700's I have seen on Ebay were going for around $350-$390. 73, de Tom, KA1MDA www.ka1mda.org
