So I was going over my manual again and while looking to get a mobile unit for the car, I happen to notice my VX-170 can be set up with packets to a TNC. Well my question is I wanted to use the VX-170 as a portable unit in the car when I drive (will be going to Canada soon) and I'd like to know which TNC can I use? it would have to run off 12V which I think rules out the Tinytrak?

Every TNC that I can think of can be run off 12V. The TinyTrac, Fox digi, Argent and several others being made now as well as the older AEA, Kantronics which can be picked up cheap on eBay or a hamfest. Have fun!
