APRS DIGI SET UP OF PK-96-100 Reply
by KF6NPL on October 15, 2009 Mail this to a friend!
Hi there, since I get my VX8 with the whole gps-aprs set up, I start loving APRS, only problem in my home town Redlands CA 92373, I have no coverage at all, I get coverage in near by towns like San Bernardino CA.
So I decide to set up my own APRS Digi, I just purchase a VHF DATA RADIO MFJ-8621A, wich is set up crystal to 144.390 and also I purchase a TNC PK-96-100.
What I like to accomplish is to set up this two units as a stand alone APRS DIGI, with is own 2 meter antenna and power by a 13.8V battery backed up power supply.
I like to have some help on how to set up this, the TNC - RADIO is very straigh both have the same type of connectors, so this will be no problem, but the parameters set up at the TNC probably will be a little more complicated, so if any of you can help me to get my town into the APRS map, I would appreciate it.

What APRS program are you going to run. You will either have too manually program the TNC (big pain) or program it with something like UI-View322.

Hi Lindy, thanks for your answer. I do have several software programs, "ROC Digital Desktop ", "XPWARE for windows ", "WINPACK", " PKTERM" and " UI-view", but what I would like to do is to set up a STAND ALONG unit, the MFJ-8621A VHF Data Radio, connected to the AEA PK-96 100, I belive that the parameters has to be enter only once to the TNC, and let the unit just DIGI APRS on the area that I live, so what I try to find out it is how to set the PK-96 to do just that, this TNC had "true DCD" for hear weak signals.
I don't want to had a computer permanent conected to the TNC, just the tnc radio poer supply and antenna. Thanks
Dan
