You will have to use an APRS capable TNC, be it a hardware TNC or sound card TNC first.

Clay,
There's a couple ways you can do it. I have the Byonics TT4 and the Byonics GPS2. Byonics has a splitter available for the TT4 so you can hook a pc and a GPS unit to the TT4 at the same time. The TT4 then interface to your rig. There are several software packages on the market which can then take the inforamtion from the GPS and interface and plot your and other peoples APRS cordinates on a map. You can use any GPS such as a Garmin but you'll need a GPS unit witha serial interface. Most of the newer GPS unit have a USB interface, not serial.
There also might be a way to use a USB GPS unit plugged into the pc then hook the pc to a Byonics TT4 or other brand APRS interface. Either way you will also need a USB to serial adapter, since most laptops aren't sold with serial ports.
Hope this information helps more than causing any confusion.
