Hello!
I'm a newbie to APRS and just purchased a Kantronics KPC-3 at a hamfest with the version 6.0 EPROM installed. The price was very good, but I have some questions about the unit's capabilities.
1) What are the deficiencies of v. 6.0? Can it be used in APRS?
2) Since Kantronics apparently does not sell the most recent firmware upgrade, does anyone have a clue where I might get a version 8.2 EPROM?
Thanks very much for any help.
My email is willis.219@osu.edu.
-Carl, KF4KIG.

Hello Carl,
Unless you wish to put up a digi you're probably okay with the version 6.0 firmware. The last update for the KPC3 was 8.2 (make sure it's the one with "265" at the end of the version string when you type "ver" at the command prompt since there was more than one version of 8.2).
I do not have a source for the chips and am currently looking for several of the 8.2 chips myself.
IF ANYONE HAS A SOURCE PLEASE CONTACT ME (w4law@woodruffgroup.us or toll free at 800-485-9017)

I do have the source code and burner for the 8.2 chips for both the 3 and 3 plus.
