APRS Maps - trying to use MS Streets and Trips Reply
by KB1KIX on August 31, 2004 Mail this to a friend!
I have Microsoft Streets and Trips which works great with my GPS and laptop on the road (got me to Boxboro just fine!!!).

However, I want to use good street level maps with APRS at our public service events. I read on the UIView website that it works with MapPoint, which I think is another Microsoft product.

Has anyone tried it with Micro$oft Streets and Trips? Or any APRS software with "streets and trips"?

Just looking for a good street level mapping option to use on my laptop at events.

Thanx for the feedback in advance,

Jonathan

Jonathan, you will find that every APRS product on the market is terribly idiosyncratic and unique. If it says it works with specific software, especially specific mapping software, you can be Real Damned Sure it won't work at all with any other software, or any other versions of the software, besides the ones listed.

You could create your maps by doing screen captures. You need to know the coordinates of the upper left corner and lower right corner. It's a time consuming process, but it works. You will also need to know how to rename a file in DOS mode.
