Amp Supply Parts Reply
by N0UY on November 1, 2009 Mail this to a friend!
I have purchased a used LK-500NTB which is a no tune amp design. I am looking for a source of parts, such as the Central Labs rotary band switch, and maybe one or two of the air variable capacitors in the tuned output. This amp uses six tuning caps (one for each band) on the output and a couple have some damage to arc over. I did carefully file up the burnt corners and edges where the arcs occurred and they seem to be functioning OK. The rotary switch has some issues with the feed wipers and is intermittent at best.

Are there any parts sources available other than swapfests?

thanks for any help. This is my first amp project so I'm sure to make some mistakes. And YES I will be very cautious around the high voltage.

tnx ray

I have never seen the design, so I am shooting in the dark. However, Surplus Sales http://www.surplussales.com/ may be of some help. Not cheap, but a wide selection of surplus electronics and hardware.

Harbach has a bandswitch deck for the Heathkit SB-200 and 220 that you might be able to use. http://www.harbachelectronics.com/

If the bandswitch only has damaged contacts then new ones might be cannibalized from another bandswitch and relocated to your unit. There are postings from those that have successfully done this - drill out the rivets and do the transplant. Complete the job with some #3 hardware and a dab of Locktite to hold the hardware in place.

HAMS are resourceful lot.

OK, thanks Howard for the heads up. The band switch has one of the feed wipers completely burned off from arcing. I'm not sure if the term is correct for the copper arm that contacts the supply ring towards the center, but that is what is gone on one of the contact banks.

I'll check out the two sites you have listed.

tnx, ray

Amp Supply was notorious for using parts from one thing into another. That switch is made from wafers used in other amplifiers, so someone with a big box of switches can probably put one together.

If you get stuck finding them I probably have every wafer you need here in my boxes of switches. Take good shots of what the switch wafers look like and post them up where I can see them.
