Why do these two amps look so much alike on the front panel and model numbers nearly the same? Are these companies related somehow?
I was curious as I have been researching a new amp for 2005.

The chief engineer/designer from one company left and formed the other company. I don't remember which was which.
I own neither amp but from what I have read and the comments here, it seems both are equally good amps. I believe they were designed by the same man.
Don't forget to check the reviews before deciding.

Thanks Lon, that makes sense now. Yes I've been reading reviews on many amps recently.

I sent an e-mail to QRO and got a definitive answer:
I was cofounder of Command Technologies. We split up 10 years ago. We have no relationship now.

They are both well made amps. QRO uses the 4CX800A Russian tetrode tube which are cheap, plentiful, and fairly good quality, although I have heard of new tube failures once in awhile with the Russian tube. About $100 per tube.
Command Technologies uses the EXPENSIVE Eimac 3CX800A7 ceramic triode which are extremely good quality, still being made and will be for the forseeable future. However, at $475 to $500 each, they are not cheap tubes. They are primarily sold for use in medical equipment which is why I think Eimac charges so much.
It just depends on which you prefer. 73.

While both are good tubes, the 3CX800A7 is made to much higher standards than the Russian 4CX800. Givin the choice I'll take the 3CX800A7 over the 4CX800 any day,and did.
