HAVING PREVIOUSLY WRITTEN ABOUT THE USE OF A ZERO-FIVE FLAGPOLE (OR SIMULAR) ANTENNA, AND RECEIVED SOME POSITIVE,AND SOME NEGATIVE COMMENTS, I TRIED A DIFFERENT PATH. THE THOUGHT OF SPENDING $500 BUCKS ON A HIDDEN VERTICLE, HAPPEN TO READ AN ARTICLE ON LOADING UP THE RAIN GUTTERS, SO I THOUGH......Hmmm!! MY GUTTERS ALONG THE REAR OF THE HOUSE CONSISTS OF A 27FOOT VERTICAL SECTION, AND A HORIZONTAL OF 38 FOOT. EUREKA! THATS 65 FOOT IN A INVERTED L;END FED, FACING EAST-WEST WITH THE EAST BEIMG THE VERTICAL SECTION. I HAVE RG8X FROM MY 2ND FLOOR TO THE GROUND WHERE IT IS BURIED ALONG THE FOUNDATION TO THE BOTTOM OF THE DRAIN WHICH ENDS IN A PIECE OF PVC. I ATTACHED THE CENTER WITH STAINLESS STEEL SCREW AND WASHERS; WHILE THE BRAID IS ATTACHED TO 2 5O FOOT GROUND WIRES BURRIED IN OPOSITE DIRECTIONS,(2 BEING ALL I COULD USE FOR MY LOCATION).
NOW HOW DOES IT WORK..... IT LOADS UP FLAT WITH MY MFJ TUNER ON ALL BANDS FROM 10 THROUGH 160!! DID I MENTION FLAT!!!
WELL, HOW DOES IT TALK? IN THE FIRST SEVEN CONTACTS, I HAVE WORKED CT1,XE1,YN9,CO6 AND REST IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS OF THE USA. AM I DELIGHTED, YES! IS THERE ANY PROBLEMS, ALSO YES, BUT IT IS MINOR. WHEN I TRANSMIT, WITH MORE THAN 70 WATTS, MY WIRED FIRE ALARMS AND A KIDD NIGHTHAWK DETECTOR ALL SOUND OFF, SO SOME FERRITES AND CHOKES THE NEXT PROJECT,LOL.
BY THE WAY, THIS ANTENNA IS STEALTH, AS ALL YOU CAN SEE IS THE CO-AX FROM MY WINDO TO THE GROUND, THAT'S IT!!
IF THIS HELPS OTHERS WITH CC&R ISSUES, IT IS WORTH A TRY, GUYS!

Any kind of a flag pole, gutter or external flashing is the very first thing that an antenna hunding party looks for.
Load the flagpole is soooooo cliche....
You will let us know when the HOA files a legal action agaist your for breech of contract wont you?

THE BASE OF THE DRAINSPOUT IS CONCEILED BY SHRUBERY, AND OTHER BUSHES. YOU HAVE TO BE 2 FOOT AWAY TO SEE ANYTHING!

Sight when the antenna potential is a commonly used thing means absolutely nothing at all.....
IF I were were part of an HOA Inspection team I would immediately suspect any flagpole and start to root around to find any transmission line connection.
I would immmeately view 'Any' gutter or any roof edge flashing as an antenna and inspect for any transmission line inspection.
Being 5 feet away does NOT mean using a 'Commonly Used' thing as an external antenna.
Let us know when the HOA bust you and how much those external antennas are going to cost you when they file a leagl action against you in a court of law.

And by the way....
Anyone looking to find a possible illegal external radio antenna can target your residence pretty damn easy.
All they have to do is to type in a street name and city and the FCC Data will target your house as a possible violator.
As your address is a matter of public record and easily discovered you are going to have to be extremely cagey up to the point of paranoid if you are going to outsmart a 'I'm gonna get your azz sucka' attitude HOA inspection team with experience in rooting out illegeal external antennas.
Be far far far more creative than you currently are.

OK, ........1. I DIDNT CHOOSE THE FLAGPOLE ROUTE. 2. MY CC%R RULES SAY NOTHING ABOUT ANTENNAS. 3. WE ARE USING TEMPORARY OFFICERS DUE TO THE FACT THAT NOBODY WANTS TO RUN THE ASSOCIATION, AND THEY COULD CARE LESS ABOUT ANTENNAS, HELL, THERE ARE INFRACTIONS ALL OVER THE NEIGHBORHOOD, AND THEY DONT GIVE A RATS ...!
DUDE, YOU NED TO CALM A BIT. IF THE DAMN ANTENNA IS INVISIBLE COMPLETELY, I DONT BOTHER ANYONE(I AM REAL CLOSE WITH MY NEIGHBORS), THE TEMPORARY ASSOCIATION COULD CARE LESS, AND IT WORKS, THEN GREAT! I USED TO HAVE UP A DIPOLE IN PLAIN SIGHT FOR 3 YEARS AND NOBODY ASKED QUESTIONS,THIS IS IMMEASURABLY BETTER!
IT DOESNT BEAT THE TH6DXX ON A CRANK-UP, TILT OVER AT 55 FT. BUT I HAVE WORKED ABOUT EVERYTHING OVER THE LAST 43 YEARS, SO I CANT LIVE WITH IT, CAN YOU?

“Be far far far more creative than you currently are.”
Aside from attic antennas, what other stealth antennas (than the ones listed here) would you propose? Ray, perhaps you could enlighten us ALL on how to properly install and hide a stealth antenna that has not been tried already, or mentioned in these forums over the past several years. If these kinds of set ups are sooooo obvious to the HOA police (and you) what measures can one take to get on the air without being noticed?
I also get a sense that you’re implying that if one lives in a restricted community that they should throw in the towel and not return to ham radio until they move to a non-restricted community, whereas they can achieve a “Big Gun” station possibly like yours? The economy is not too rosy these days and some folks have to move to a less desirable (not the case here) QTH until things get better.
I’ve seen your posts here in the past. Mostly negative doom & gloom comments with very little constructive criticism.
Don't rain on somebody elses parade if they making contacts with a dismal antenna set up. It's better than no antenna at all!!!!
Cheers!!

Well first off attic antennas suck pond scum and insert RFI into the house wires as well as the house wires sending nice buzzz into the antenna due to close proximity.
NOT TO MENTION the risk of elecrotucion of yourself in putting one in the attic as well as putting a leg thru the ceiling.
And I take it that me telling you the pure and absolute undenyable FACT that you signed the contract and I will forever DEMAND that you flat out OBEY its terms as long as you live in the house weither you damn will like it or not will do any good.
SOOOOOOO
GOOGLE THIS....two antennas specificly meet your situation and once completely installed properly will NEVER EVER BE SPOTTED visually
The First is Snake Antenna--basicly a half wave length of wire (or longer if you wish) laid out on the ground that is end fed. You will of course need a good antenna tuner in order to make your radio happy and a good high power amp to compensate for the height of normal antennas. Lay out the wire on the ground in your back yard in a zig zag if required pattern and let the grass grow OVER IT and let the dirt slightely cover it. Feed the antenna UNDER your house in a very dark corner. It does not matter if part of the antenna is under the house.
The second is that you google and I am NOT making a joke--Buried Antenna. Yea you BURY the entire damn antenna and transmission line just below the surface of the earth in a trench. There are of course very specific installation requirements that you have to follow. Google Buried Antenna and you will see the instructions to make one.
Additional Options...
People use the wooden fence all the time for support of either end fed wires or loops but this is a gross mistake because laying the loop wire out in the open on top of a stringer or runner lets the Get Your Ass inspection team see the antenna wire. HERE IS THE TRICK. IF IF IF you will BE putting up a brand new wooden privacy fence, put the wire UNDER THE STRINGERS and Runners as you install the fence so not one inch of the antenna wire never ever sees the light of day (the antenna wire is in the center of the fence material so to speak) completely 100% hidden. Wood does not hinder RF. Remember, not one single inch of the antenna wire should see the light of day. Feed the antenna underground and bury the transmission coax as well. Of course Max power amp and good antenna tuner required.
AND IF you want the ultimate IN YOUR FACE methods, and I cannot claim this one because I read it while doing some research years ago, use ultra thin magnet wire and a tot 50 stapler. Run a loop on the bottm quarter of the fasure board completely around the house--this will be a ranom length loop of course. Use small tot 50 or I imagine by todays standards standard stapler(s) to every now and then support the loop and hold it in place. THEN and here is the important part: PAINT OVER the loop at least 2 coats of latex house paint. Take care when paiting the fasure board so as to NOT break the wires. The paint once dried will also hold the thin wire in place. By the end of the drying of the 2nd coat of paint that almost invisible magnet wire will become 100% undetectable. Use a 3rd coat of paint if needed (some paints are thinner than others). Feed the two ends of the thin wire thru a small crack (and I mean a small crack that you can paint over to seal it) in the woodwork to the inside of the overhang where you feed it with coax. ONCE again use a good tuner to compensate for bad matching but in this case since the wire is so damn small and thin do not run high power. Stick with relatively low power of say====50 watts or less.
NOW you note thru this that two pieces of equipment are required: a good tuner and a high power amp. Both are completely unavoidable in extremely compromised antennas.
ONCE you have your antenna up and set in place one piece of advise....Avoid SSB and CW like the plague. Both are easily detectable and recognizable by the average common village idiot. RATHER use digital modes such as PSK, RTTY, SSTV, Digital SSTV or any mode that transmits with a BUZZZZZZZZZing noise. It will drive your neighbors completely crazy trying to figure out what that noise is.
Just sit back, smile, say little or nothing and enjoy inflicting the torment.

>Well first off attic antennas suck pond scum and insert RFI into the house wires as well as the house wires sending nice buzzz into the antenna due to close proximity.<
::Absolutely. No squabbles there. Mine is outside at 45ft. The birds love it. :-)
>NOT TO MENTION the risk of elecrotucion of yourself in putting one in the attic as well as putting a leg thru the ceiling.<
::Being an electrician for 25 plus years of voltages up to 12Kv, I can spell electrocution.
>And I take it that me telling you the pure and absolute undenyable FACT that you signed the contract and I will forever DEMAND that you flat out OBEY its terms as long as you live in the house weither you damn will like it or not will do any good.<
::I never signed anything. Zip, zilch, zero, nada. Read my earlier post again.

::Never tried that. Only did that in my youth as a SWL’er. I would assume that gopher and termite problems would be non-existent. Or, you’d be just running your signal into the mud. HI

::Enjoyed every moment of it. Thick skin ya’ know. Keep the positive torment flowing in these forums. That’s what the spirit of amateur radio is all about, right?

yes, i have seen the internet site on the so called "snake antenna". a few years back while at a buddy's house we tried that concept. he managed to make a contact, but had to"arrange" a qso from across town, as that is all he could get on it. Scratch that idea!
No, I dont want and didnt mention attic antennas(for my 4 year old home) as the access hole is now smaller than I am at my age, lol. now worth the trouble.
The treasurer of the community is a buddy of mine, and they have no one that is even slightly interested in a local witch hunt, or technically qualified (LIKE YOU ARE), or so motivated.(SOUNDS LIKE YOU WOULD LIKE THIS JOB ANYWAY). I have no interest in the alternitive modes of communication, as i prefer cw and ssb(in that order).
My neighbor and i are thinking of running for office, as they cant get anyone else interested to do it. Nothing like being on the inside(smile).
Yes, next year I am putting up a PLASTIC privacy fence along the rear of the property(about 60 foot long) so a dipole is in the future.
