solar panels and HOAs Reply

I see many HOAs allowing solar panels.
How could the HOA not allow someone the right to help themselves but better yet help the planet.
I bet HOAs are or would be very scarred to go to court and expect a good out come trying to stop people from going solar especialy down in the sunshine states like Arizona.
With all that area solar panels use, it wouldn't take much to make something work real good. And I bet someone will draw up a plan for a solar looking antenna soon.

I have solar panels covering the southern roof of the house next door to me (which I also own) and they've saved me probably $5000 or so in the past 12 months.

However they're not pretty and I avoided them on my own roof because they'd get in the way of several antennas.

Still, we save probably $400 a month or so, which isn't bad.

Hey, you could hide a lot of great antennas in those panels!

"Save" that much? You mean you spend more than that on energy?

$400 works out to about 4MWh of electricity or 300 therms of natural gas. I can't imagine a panel at a residence that can generate that amount of Btu or Wh, or a residence that can consume that much. Is your panel really that big?

What I was trying to say with my original post was that you don't have to have much of a solar panel,
just one to use as antenna.
I don't think were talking about being GREEN were
just TALKING ABOUT GETTING ON THE AIR WAVES!
With the area even 2 or 3 panels cover someone out there should be able to come up with a nice plan for
a HF antenna for someone in an HOA. Maybe just put up a vertical that looks like a pipe for the unit.
I am sure people have idea's!

actually, you have a great idea. I'd like to see such a thing. Hoping your prediction proves correct..

$400 a month?

If a kilowatt hour is ten cents, that's 4000 kilowatt hours! If it's 20 cents, that's 2000 kilowatt hours.

How big is the system?

If there is a **savings** of $400 per month than you are using entirely too much electricity to begin with. I hardly use $500 in electric in a year, but then I live quite modestly in the country.

RE EMM...

One sure way to find out...

Apply for a written authorization to permit you to install one on your roof.
