Actually, this is very common. We had a local smuggler who's plane was reported to the Sheriff by private security after it landed in a vacant field in a new development in the woods. The smugglers, the plane and all of the marijuana got away in a van, but they left a pickup truck. It had aircraft, marine, amateur and scanner radios installed in the cab. At the time, they had better communications than the local sheriff. The truck was registered to a local deadbeat military surplus vehicle dealer, who said they would kill him if he gave any information. Strangely, he was never arrested due to his local popularity.
