SB 104 Help Reply
by WG2Y on November 2, 2009 Mail this to a friend!
I am in the process of restoring an SB104. Here is the problem. I keep getting a warble sound on receive. Adjusting the VFO does not eliminate it.I have Scoped the power supply which is the heath supply and all looks good. If I move the power cable the problem moves to a different frequency as shown on the display.I also have the same symptom when I wiggle the coax from the B board to the balanced modulator board. Any ideas????

This is a long shot, but the one thing the two things you mentioned have in common is ground. Might try to make sure you've got a good and continuous ground system.

It is a long shot, but best I could come up with.

Common Problems Found With The SB-104(A) Transceiver by Ron Baker, WB4HFN
http://www.wb4hfn.com/HEATHKIT/Articles/Inside-104/SB104-Transceiver-06.htm

Loose Circuit Boards:
One very common problem is loose or misaligned circuit boards. This can cause a wide variety of problems from a dead radio, to no receive or transmit, and all sorts of intermittent problems. If you suspect this to be the problem, pull each board completely from the socket and firmly reseat the board by pushing down firmly on the board. Do this to every board in the radio, don't forget to turn off the power before removing the boards. If the contacts are dirty, use a small amount of contact cleaner and degreaser to clean those contacts, just use sparingly and let dry before applying power.
