hi, iv been using cw only now for some time (12 months or so ). Got myself to around 12-15wpm on good days but im not concerned with speed right now im just enjoying myself on the key.
My mic has been put away and i would not consider going back on the mic unless it was for a bit of vhf work but im very very rarely interested in vhf stuff. I tend to stick on 40m 2 watts to a loop and loving it.
thing is i think im addicted to it .. i can be sat in the living room or in the kitchen and im sure i can hear dits and dahs. just everyday noises can seem as if its code sometimes. if my son is playing on the pc and it makes a few noises iv heard random letters ... strange stuff..
am i now officially mad or just a cw junkie??

Yes you are quite mad indeed. Those random cw signals are being sent to ME. So stop eavesdropping on my QSO's with your refrigerator and just concentrate on 40 mtrs. While your at it kick in a few more watts and then maybe we can have a QSO. 73, Mike.

Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie worked for me, this blocked all unwanted CW signals.

Random letters is no problem. When it starts making sense, it's time to worry. When it starts to send your call, it's worse. When you start answering it with signal reports, it's too late.

Oh man, when i used to stay up the entire 24 hours for ARRL field day and worked most of that running CW, I would hear CW everywhere until I went to sleep. Any background noise and there was CW in there to be heard.

Fort Gordon, Georgia, 1965 - Intermediate Speed Radio Operator (Intercept) School - 5 hours a day CW practice with 3 hours Teletype practice thrown in to break up the grind. By the time I got to 15 WPM I dreamed in CW and was copying it in my sleep. Walking fire watch I could also hear guys "dit-ing and dah-ing" in their sleep. And yes, while awake, any random noise sounded like CW.
The washout rate was pretty high. I did finish the school and to this day I still don't care much for CW. I guess when it's forced on you it makes a difference. I didn't go for my ticket until 1972 and then only as a 5 WPM Technician so I'm currently a 5 WPM General. Sorry CW guys, but it's not for everyone.

Billy,
When I was studying for my General here in the states I went down to the area of the clothes washer and dryer. As the dryer squeaked my brain tried to interpret CW from the noise. You are not alone!

Precisely Field Day does it for me too...
Whenever a toilet flushed I could swear I was in the middle of a pile-up.
