Hello Folks, I recall back in the early 80's reading about CCW. I don't know what has come of it. I see an article here or there saying that it "evolved" to become PSK31, but to me that doesn't make sense, as CCW was supposed to be for razer-sharp selectivity (20 Hz) CW. Thoughts? Marc

I don't know if evolved is the right word. I think it's a more general thing of looking for ways to meet particular goals. One notion begets thinking about other ways to go about it. "Evolved" would be like saying AM evolved into FM. Whether one mode or another "takes offs" depends on ease of implementation, the nature of conditions required for success, and often, just plain degree of enthusiastic promotion. Since proponents of one or another mode with similar aims can argue vigorously and at length, all the factors in acceptance or lack of acceptance aren't always easy to analyze. But CCW is still provided for in a lot of software, like MultiPSK. My own suspicion is that its greatest subjective weakness is that it is Morse coding, and that feels to some like a perversion of Morse CW and to others like an artificial imposition of an ancient coding. Almost entirely subjective, but often, things are decided subjectively.
